Our brain produces more than  40,000 thoughts each day which are interpreted and converted into chemicals which surprisingly controls our behaviour. If you don’t know what a thought is, then you can check out this post on The Power of a Thought.

Every action we take, starts with a thought . A guy told me of how the thought of killing himself engulfed him so much that he was not ready to give life a chance. Had it not been for his friends who some how encouraged and talked him out of it, he would not have been telling me his story.

Nina was raped by her father and uncle at the age of 16. Although she was able to get over it, she however developed the mindset that men are animals and all they want is to take advantage of you. This has made her avoid men at all costs.

It’s important that we control our thoughts. So here are 5 ways to control your thoughts.

1. Know Jesus

You will be surprised that I suggest this method but knowing Jesus is the best thing in the world. When you come to him, he will give you wisdom and show you how to control your thoughts. So I encourage anyone who has not known Him, to get to know him personally and your life will never remain the same.

If however you have a personal relationship with Him, then trust Him to guide your thoughts. This can be done through constant communication with Him.

2. Be careful of your company.

We have an adage that says “Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”. The company you keep affects you in ways you can’t imagine.  If you are surrounded by friends who embrace negative thinking, your brain will have a tank full of negative thoughts.

If you want to control your thought, control your environment, be careful of your friends.

3. Spend your time wisely

What does time have to do with thoughts? As I said earlier, your action is controlled by your thought. Imagine you are sitting down, just thinking; thoughts are coming to you; your mind is soaring; you have all the time in the world to process this thoughts.

Hold on!!!!! Something is wrong here. You don’t have all the time in the world. You are actually day dreaming.  You need to focus. You need to solve a problem, make a decision, move to the next level.

The point I am making here is that when you are time concious, your thought becomes focused.

4. Learn something new

I give this to you as an exercise. Most experts have advised that trying something new helps the brain. So try something new today and measure your results, you will be surprised at how it helps control your thoughts.

5. Seek Counsel

We can’t know everything and there will come a time when we might not be able to control our negative thoughts. It’s always good to seek help; Iron does sharpen iron. There are people who are ready to help us. So when you come to a point where you need help, seek counsel.

 Have a great week.
