If there is one guy that is influencing his generation and making a significant change, it’s Nick Vujicic. Nick was born without arms and legs and while he faced hardship, depression and criticism as a result of being different, he did not let his situation define his potential, he decided to inspire and encourage others to achieve their dreams and live a happy life.
In his book “Life Without Limits”, Nick narrates a very inspiring story. He was to speak in a church at California. Just as he was preparing for his speaking engagement, he heard his name and turned to see a younger man holding a child named Daniel. He couldn’t see Daniel at first because of the packed crowd but when he did, he expressed an intense feeling of uneasiness.
The reason for this emotion was that Daniel was just like him, no arms and legs. Nick felt compassion for Daniel because he knew what the child would face as a result of being different; he had experienced it.
That day, Nick called the child up to the podium and with Daniel being held by his father, inspired everyone to tears while Daniel who was oblivious of his situation, was beaming with smiles but Nick learnt something that day and here is what he said with his own words
“Reflecting on my childhood I was struck by all the pain I’d gone through just by being aware of how different I was. When others mocked or shunned me, it heightened the hurt all the more, But compared to the infinite mercy and glory and power of God, I was now feeling because of the moment with Daniel, my pain was suddenly insignificant
In that life changing moment when I looked out and saw Daniel held above the crowd in that church, I realized that I’d become the miracle that I ‘d prayed for. God had not given me such a miracle But he had me Daniel’s instead.
What does it take to be a Miracle? It takes a different kind of thinking which in reality is not easy. Everyone wants a miracle just like Nick who wanted it too. He prayed that God should give him arms and legs and it seemed that God was not listening till he met Daniel.
Whatever you are going through, understand that by overcoming such challenge, you are a miracle to someone else? You become people’s guide; You become a blessing because your experience leads to the bettering of the lives of others. It’s as Marianne Williamson says ” And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”.
