If we went by the world’s definition of who I’m supposed to be because I look weird… ‘Well, surely, this guy can’t have a productive life, surely, he doesn’t have a sense of humor. Surely, he can’t love life.’ Nick Vujicic
I put a lot of pressure on myself. I think something’s not good enough, and I won’t stop until I feel like I’ve made it. I’m never satisfied. J. Cole
There’s too much darkness in the world. Everywhere you turn, someone is tryin’ to tear someone down in some way; everywhere you go, there’s a feeling of inadequacy, or a feeling that you’re not good enough. Alicia Keys
I did the best I could, and in some arenas, my best was not good enough. I’ve made some bad choices. Amy Grant
I have a very healthy dose of self-loathing. But I think we all have a past of being whatever our story was, of feeling not good enough. It can propel you to work harder and do more, but it can also be a tremendous trap, and you can’t see beyond it. Kim Cattrall
So what do you think when you look at these quotes about not being good enough? What do you notice about these sayings of not being good enough? What does this reveal to you?
Well the answer is obvious; you are not ALONE.
We have all been in this storm.
You are probably being faced with this daunting fear that whatever you do is not good enough. Maybe everything that you touch isn’t perfect; it is just there. You sometimes ponder why what seems smooth for others is so rough for you.
But here is the thing, you don’t have to be perfect to make a difference? ( This story proves it a lot). Ok! so you don’t believe me and still have doubt in your heart about how good you are, then here are 4 ways to overcome your fear of not being good enough.
1. Don’t See others as Competition.
So there is this common advise by experts to look at the competition and see how you can stand out. The problem is that to some of you, this sounds like a war drum.
Now competition can be very overwhelming. You have an idea that is so exciting and you have a message that will solve people’s problem but seeing the competition makes you wonder if you have what it takes. You struggle with the fear of not being accepted.
This is the real problem for so many people. By looking at the other competition, you feel that you are too young to make a difference. You think that you don’t have much going on in your life so how can you lead others and what would become of you if you fail?
Here is the thing, don’t look at others as your competition but see them as people who have the same drive as you. See them as people who have the same passion with you. You don’t need to struggle with the fear of not being wanted. They may be talented, skillful or more experienced than you but you can stand out with your unique gift.
2. Lead from What You Have Right Now
You might be dead on your tracks because you think you don’t have the resources to make a difference.
You are waiting for the right time, at the right moment, with all the resources you need to be super successful.
This is never going to happen so don’t waste your time. Start with what you have right now. You need to understand that every journey begins with a step and even a sweet little baby comes to the world empty handed.
There are people that you will definitely inspire even with your little beginnings ( This little girl proved this so well). Start now. That is all there is to it.
3. You are Amazing just the Way You are.
I keep saying this all the time and I am going to keep on repeating it till my time is up.
I believe that you can make a difference which is why you matter so much. The world needs you so much.
So maybe there are many experts in your field. So it seems that your niche is crowded but there is one thing for sure and that is no one can be like you.
If you don’t copy the crowd. If you work towards improving the authentic you. If you provide tremendous value in your own way. Why in the world would you think that you are not good enough?
4. Being an Expert does not mean that you are an Influence.
There is this addiction to be an expert. So many people do awkward things just to impress and be called an expert.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad thing. People who need solution are drawn to those that are skilled in solving them but the goal of being an expert is limiting when it is not about people but more about the title.
Experts aren’t that perfect. The experts I have known in their career so well are Learners. They keep abreast of their skill to share their knowledge to their audience. Their aim isn’t to impress but to provide value to their audience.
You do not need to be number one to gain the trust of people. In fact, there are some people who resonate with you in your weakness. All you need is to put yourself out there and give people the opportunity to connect with the real you.
What is it that is keeping your in the sidelines of life? What is it that is making you fear to take those steps to your dreams?
Decide today to overcome your fear and make a difference to others. Don’t forget that your voice is needed in this world.
