Have you been told that you can live life to the fullest and you are saddling up to embark on this journey? Are you on the goal of living an awesome life?

Then you need to take a break, read this, and understand why you are going on an endless journey.

Years back, I believed that one could live life to the fullest and I did write about it back then. Fast toward today, my thinking about living life to the fullest, has been challenged and it all began with a great family.

Now Ravi asked a question about living life to the fullest. It is common knowledge that there is a life out there that one could live to the highest. He wanted to know if it was possible and had his doubts about such knowledge.

My family are very good listeners and can deliberate on issues with wisdom so we looked at the issue and here is what I learnt, based on the insight of my family which I have presented to you

5 Reasons Why Living Life to the Fullest is Wrong Advice.

1. People don’t know what it means to live to the fullest

There are different opinions about living life to the fullest. Some people believe that it is all about being financially free and living an awesome life while there are others who say that it is a life of contentment and being grateful.

It does seem that both schools of thought are right. The problem however is no one can accurately define what it means to live life to the fullest.

If life is about being rich, then there are those who have committed suicide with all the riches, fame, and status.

If on the other hand life to you, is about being contented then realize that such a mindset is not that popular in the world. There will always be the temptation to be Oliver Twist.

What you will discover is that in reality, every opinion, or definition of the topic is mostly based on the perception of what one feels about living life to the fullest.

As they say ” As the faces of man is different so is his problem and so is his dreams“.

2. It is Unrealistic

Since no one has an idea of how to live life to the fullest, then such a goal is unrealistic. Goals are supposed to smart, measurable, achievable, timely, and realistic. Do you think living life to the fullest is a smart goal?

3. The World Keeps Changing

A long time ago, all you needed to live an awesome life was to go to school, get a job, make sure you are promoted in your company, work towards retirement and you will be paid pension.

Then you could relax, with no business and income stream as your pension was enough to sustain you for life.

I guess by now you will be thinking “Yeah, it doesn’t work today” and you are right but the point is that our world is changing.  As an illustration, here is an infograph by moneychoice.org about the changes that took place in America for 100 years.

Think about the principles or even hacks that you have held unto for years about living an intentional life and ask yourself if the world does agree with these principles today.

 4. You are faced with new challenges

Each and every day of your life, you are faced with new challenges. This is why it is difficult to live life to the fullest, just when you think you are at the goal of bliss, a new challenge comes knocking at your doorstep.

I am sure you have heard of people who talk about the Good old days and maybe you mentioned it yourself.

The new days aren’t always bad but what we have, are people who still hold on to the past and aren’t ready to face the challenges of the future.

 5. Humans will be bored to death

Now even though I have said that living life to the fullest is an unrealistic goal, let us assume that it can be achieved.

Imagine that there are no new challenges, no new problems to solve, no new solutions to a problem, no innovation; just the same set of routines done over and over again. How would life be? What would become of humans?

Here is What You Should Be Doing Instead

Rather than think about living life to the fullest, try this things:

 Live for the moment

Do your best, keep learning, do the unimaginable. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

Be Grateful

Appreciate where you are today. Be grateful for the gifts and talents you possess and be happy for your uniqueness, for you are an inspiration.

Embrace Challenges

Don’t be afraid of situations, don’t let circumstances define you. Embrace problems; use it to grow; don’t dwell too much in the past but move forward to the future.

The best you can do with your life is to enjoy the moment, living your life with grace and purpose.
